Apple Crumble Frozen Yogurt

It’s fall.

Did you notice? I noticed.

The leaves. The morning chills. The pumpkins…everywhere.

Can I just say, I’m a huge fan of the harvest season? All the good stuff starts coming around like root vegetables, squash (oh baby I love squash), apples, pears, corn…

Of course, the first thing I usually do is start baking. There’s one problem. I’m not ready for fall yet. I still want to sit outside and drink watermelon lemonade (yeah that happened).

I want to curse about having to weed my garden in the blazing heat. I want to wear nothing on my feet and stand in the grass.

So this is me reluctantly embracing the fact that it’s fall, but giving the summer season one last hoorah.

It’s apple crumble…with that warm apple taste, nice chunks of apple, and the miracle that is a crumble topping, folded into frozen yogurt.

I’ve been wanting to try this frozen yogurt recipe for ages but none of the flavours of summer seemed quite right! The recipe is from my cousin in Isreal. We don’t know each other very well but we know that we both like to bake, and I must say, he has been nothing but supportive and enthusiastic about my blog. So thanks to Maurice, you lucky ducks have yourself one killer recipe for frozen yogurt.

Now go make and eat this quick! Before it gets colder outside.

Cook some apples with a hint of spice and everything nice. Let cool.

Make some crumble topping and let cool.

Mix equal parts cooked apples with maple syrup (or honey)

Stir in some plain full fat yogurt, and some table cream.

Pop into ice cream maker

Fold in crumble topping before freezing.

Apple Crumble Frozen Yogurt.

frozen yogurt recipe adapted from my cousin Maurice!

Crumble topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all purpose or spelt four

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

pinch salt

cinnamon: just a dash!

Bake at 350F for about 20 min or until crisp and golden. It will seem more cookie-like than your traditional crumble topping. I just wanted to make it ice cream-friendly. Know what I mean?

Let this cool before folding into processed frozen yogurt. Place the frozen yogurt in the freezer for a couple of hours before devouring.

Yogurt:

250 g cooked apples (3-4 medium apples, peeled, chopped, cooked with cinnamon nutmeg and a little water until mostly mush)

250 g maple syrup (or honey)

600 ml plain full fat yogurt

1/2 cup 35% cream (I used 18% because that was all I had and it TOTALLY worked)

Mix all the ingredients together and process in an ice cream maker.

    Love the idea of frozen yogurt.i really need to get me an ice cream maker thought. Thanks for the tip.
